Lawyers protest against Amaechi at NBA Conference in Abuja

Some members of the Nigerian Bar Association yesterday protested at the NBA 2015 Annual Conference ongoing in Abuja.

The protesting members of the Association who were members from the Rivers state Chapter staged the protest to show their grievances against the inclusion the former Governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi as guest in one of the sessions.

Amaechi and Governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo state were to preside over a session in the conference and present speeches on the theme -Public Perception of Lawyers: Is the Esteem Justified?

However, leader of the protest and Chairman of the Port Harcourt branch of the NBA, Denis Okwakpam told the media that the Lawyers were still angry with Amaechi for his role in the closing down of courts in Rivers state for almost 2 years.

Okwakpam said the lawyers were of the opinion that the former Governor of Rivers state is not worthy to address them.

“We are not happy with him. We went through a lot under him as the Governor of Rivers state so that was why we protested when we heard he was going to co-chair a session with Governor Oshiomole at the ICC.

“As for if we were sponsored by the PDP, I hear that alot. We are not politicians and I for one have no political inclinations. We are Lawyers and we know what we are doing,” he said.

However, the NBA session went on with former Governor Amaechi making his presentation without any disruption.
