Speeding vehicle kills 4-year-old boy, injures two others in Kubwa

A vehicle, alleged to have been driven by an unidentified female police officer in Kubwa, a satellite town in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, on Saturday, reportedly knocked down a four-year-old boy, his father and elder brother.

The accident, which happened in the early hours of Saturday around the NYSC junction along Abuja-Kubwa expressway, saw the 4-year-old dead while his father and elder brother sustained injuries.

According to an unnamed witness, the father of the deceased was conveying the two kids on a motorcycle from Zuba axis to Kubwa when the speeding vehicle hit them.

He said the father of the boys rode against traffic and ran into the driver who was negotiating the U-turn from Kubwa connecting the expressway leading to the city centre, Daily Trust reports.

The witness further revealed that three of them fell instantly, while the deceased, who was sitting on top of the fuel tank immediately died. The father and the brother sustained injuries and were taken to the Kubwa General Hospital for treatment.

The Kubwa Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Nurrudeen Sabo, while confirming the incident, attributed it to impatience.

Sabo warned motorists, especially motorcyclists to desist from driving against traffic to avert similar occurrence.

He however, noted that the deceased had been buried according to Islamic rites while the injured had since been discharged after receiving treatment at the Kubwa General Hospital.
