Police arrest woman for selling grandson to ritualist for N100,000

An unidentified woman, who reportedly sold her grandson to a ritualist for the sum of N100,000, has been apprehended.

The woman who hails from Onitsha Ngwa in Obingwa Local Government, Abia State was arrested by the state Police Command for allegedly selling her 3-year-old grandson to a suspected ritualist, on Tuesday.

The Command’s spokesman, DSP Udeviotu Onyeke, speaking with newsmen in Aba, said the woman had left the village with the child only to return a week later to report that the child was missing.

According to sources from the village, it was reported that when the suspect was questioned about the missing boy, her response triggered suspicion, thereby prompting the villagers to invite the police.

The suspect allegedly told the police that she sold the boy for N100, 000 to an unnamed native doctor in Akwa Ibom and wanted to use the money to buy a motorcycle before the end of the year.

DSP Onyeke, however, said that the woman had since changed her statement, claiming that the boy was with her sister in Aba.

The spokesman assured them that the police would thoroughly investigate the matter to unravel the whereabouts of the victim as the little boy remains missing.
