A certain Mrs. Yekini Ifeoluwa, was on Tuesday arrested by the Ogun
State Police Command at Abule Ifo in Ifo Local Government Area of the
state for allegedly stealing a 2-week-old baby.
The baby, reports say, was rescued unhurt by the police.
Confirming
the arrest and rescue, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO,
Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the 29-year-old suspect had been monitoring the
mother of the baby right from when she was pregnant.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspect eventually succeeded in stealing the child using deception.
According
to him, the suspect who had deceived her yet-to-be identified husband
into believing that she was pregnant, stole the baby girl on October 31,
explaining that having succeeded in stealing the baby, Ifeoluwa went
into hiding at her parents’ village from where she called her husband
and his relations on the phone, informing them that she had been
delivered of a baby girl.
Adejobi said, “The suspect, who had been
monitoring the mother of the baby while pregnant, went in pretense to
celebrate with the mother in her house at the same village after
delivery and requested to carry the baby.
“The mother of the child
obliged her and Ifeoluwa went further by requesting from the mother to
take the baby out to shop for the baby girl, but at the market, the
suspect decided to run away with the baby to an unknown place.
“The
mother of the baby, after several efforts to locate the suspect,
reported the case to the police at the Police Divisional Headquarters in
Ifo for search and necessary investigation.”
Adejobi said officials pinned the suspect down at an undisclosed location, adding that she will be charged to court soon.
“The baby has been handed over to the mother,” the PPRO noted.
