Odemwingie sets 10 goal target

Peter Odemwingie has set himself a target of 10 goals next season, and has expressed his desire to start many games for Stoke City in the new season.

The Potters’ forward came off the bench to score in the Potters’ 2-1 defeat to FC Cologne in a pre-season game on Saturday.

The 34 year-old fans favourite remains well on track to fully recover from the cruciate knee ligament injury which laid him low 11 months ago in the 1-0 win at Manchester City.

"My first target was to not miss any training during pre-season, which I've done so far, and hopefully that will stay that way,” Odemwingie told Stoke Sentinel.

"I hope to start many games and get to double figures for goals. I look at 10 Premier League goals this season, I think it’s achievable.

"I'm motivated and have a good feeling about the year and can't wait for the season.”

"Yes, hopefully I can get 90 minutes," he added.

"I feel much better physically, but need to keep going and working hard.

"I've had three games so far... 60 minutes, 80 and 45, which is what I need.

"The knee is getting much better and I'm feeling more comfortable. It's nine months now and still a few months away from being 100 per cent, but I'm happy where I am.

"There's no short cuts. You have to make those efforts off the ball as well, which I'm trying to do, to get me back to my best physical condition and hopefully we can continue without any injuries,” he concluded.
