Gambia frees over 200 prisoners, past coup plotters



TVC NEWS [BANJUL] - Gambia freed more than 200 detainees on Friday, including 31 imprisoned for treachery amid various plots to topple long-controlling President Yahya Jammeh, prison authorities said.
It was gathered that many cheering and sobbing companions and relatives gathered outside the Mile 2 prison in the tiny West African nation's capital to welcome them.
Those connected to a fizzled endeavor to expel Jammeh in December stay detained in spite of the fact that their relatives, including the elderly mother of the asserted instigator, were liberated, authorities said.
Old inmates, some of whom were imprisoned for a long time, alternated to express appreciation for their discharge, declared by Jammeh in a discourse on Wednesday to praise 21 years since his increase by military overthrow.
Three Dutch residents, a German and an Australian who had been imprisoned on medication charges were among 49 outsiders discharged, the authorities included. There were 182 Gambians exculpated.
