Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is back making friends again by claiming his Premier League rivals are 'buying' the title, and says even without the big investments his side are still going to be contenders to retain their status of English champions.

Despite spending £86.5million on Cesc Fabregas, Loic Remy, Filipe Luis and Diego Costa in last year's summer transfer window before adding Juan Cuadrado for a further £26m in February,

Mourinho has had to be more shrewd in the market this time around, recruiting Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic (£8m), Monaco striker Falcao (loan), Atletico Paranaense midfielder Nathan (£4.5m) and Partizan Belgrade youngster Danilo Pantic, who is set to be shipped out on loan to Vitesse Arnhem.

When the Portuguese arrived for his first stint at Stamford Bridge in 2004, Roman Abramovich's mega-money takeover was already a year in the making and many accused the Blues of buying their way to back-to-back Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006.

Jose Mourinho accepted to take Radamel Falcao (centre) on loan but has spent a lot less than his counterparts
Manchester City splashed the cash by signing Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling (centre) for £49million
Liverpool top the spending having forked out almost £80million on the likes of Christian Benteke (£32.5m)
However Mourinho now believes it is the other Premier League challengers that are using their spending power to help fight their way to the top.
'In the beginning of Mr. Abramovich coming to Chelsea, Chelsea was buying the title,' said Mourinho.
'Now, they are buying the title. All of them, they are buying the title.
