Former Editor of the New Nigerian Newspapers and the. Citizen Magazine, Late Hajiya Bilikisu Yusuf has been described as a role model in the journalism profession.

The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Abdulwaheed Odusile, made the assertion when he led journalists on a condolence visit to the family of the deceased in Kaduna on Monday.

Comrade Odusile added that the vacuum created by death of the late Bilikisu could not be easily filled, adding that as the first female editor in the North, she proved that female journalists could perform as their male counterparts.

“Her feat as the editor of the. New Nigerian Newspaper is visible as she took the medium to greater heights. When she was also at the Citizen Magazine, she turned it to a must read for all Nigerians. When she finally retired from the pen profession, she spent her time for humanity and Allah by involving in many Non-Governmental Organizations to advocate for the betterment of Nigerians.

“As the National Vice Amir of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), she was able to unify Muslim women and make them not only work on the path of Allah but humanity,” he said.

The NUJ President who was represented by the Vice President, North West Zone, Comrade Yusuf Idris, said late Bilikisu would be missed for a long time by journalists in particular and Nigerians in general.

“We pray for Allah (SWA) to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and grant her ‘Aljanah’,” he said.

In his remarks, the husband of late Bilikisu Yusuf, Alhaji Mohammed Mustapha Binabe, thanked the NUJ delegation for their solidarity.

He, however, said the family took solace in the fact that she died in the process of worshipping Allah, which also showed part of her giving to Allah everything she had.
