Fluminense release Ronaldinho

Ronaldinho and Fluminense have parted company by mutual consent, only two months after he arrived at the Maracana.

The former Barcelona and AC Milan star moved to the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A team on July 11 and signed an 18-month contract.

However, after making just nine appearances for Fluminense, he formally asked to be released.

“Fluminense hereby announces the termination of the contract with the athlete Ronaldinho Gaucho, amicably and by mutual agreement,” a statement read.

“From the first contact with the directors, the athlete and his representative addressed the club with professionalism and respect.

“Fluminense and Ronaldinho will maintain their ties and plan to work on other projects in the future.

“It should be noted that the deal met marketing expectations, increasing ticket sales, the number of shirts sold and commercial partners.

“The Ronaldinho deal also showed that Fluminense can arouse the interest of the greatest players in world football.

“Fluminense thanks Ronaldinho and wishes him good luck in the next stage of his journey.”

According to reports, Ronaldinho repeatedly showed up for training in poor physical condition, because of his party lifestyle – a story the club has since denied.
