Van Gaal hails United’s goalless draw with Newcastle as ‘fantastic’

Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal, has insisted his side were unlucky not to beat Newcastle on Saturday.

The Red Devils had many chances to score, but settled for a 0-0 draw with Steve McClaren’s team. The result saw United’s 100% start to the season come to an end, but Van Gaal was happy with the performance.

“We can be satisfied with the performance but not with the result, we were unlucky,” he said.

“We did not make the right choices in the final third but we played fantastic as a team. I like these kind of games when we work like this, but not this result.”

Speaking on Wayne Rooney’s goal that was disallowed for offside in the 3rd minute, Van Gaal said: “Wayne scored only it was not allowed.

“When you see the television, it is very doubtful so you need eyes.

“It is doubtful and the rules are that when it is doubtful then do not flag. But it is also football and I have said already many times you need more equipment to help the referees and linesmen because it is not easy.”
