PDP accuses Aregbesola of awarding over bloated contracts
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Friday, said it would not oppose any legitimate tax introduced by Governor Rauf Aregbesola, encouraging Osun people to cooperate with government, only when asked to pay statutory dues.
The party stated this in a communique issued after a meeting of the Osun Central Senatorial District Stakeholders’ meeting held in Osogbo.
The communique, read by a third republic Senator, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Senator Olu Alabi, said that the cost of many projects embarked upon by the government are on the high side.
According to the party, it does not harbour any personal grudge against Governor Aregbesola, but hinged its constant criticism of his administration on non delivery on pre-election promises.
The party also said the cost of many roads contracts awarded by the present administration were beyond what the economy of the state could cope with and called for more judicious management of Osun’s resources.
Furthermore, the communique demanded immediate conduct of elections into the 30 local government areas in the state, including Ife East Area Office, Modakeke, 8 years after the last one was held.
The communique reads in part: “We also demand immediate disbandment of an armed group called “State Boys” to give indigenes freedom to express themselves.
“Also, the governor should henceforth, respect opinions of others, especially, stakeholders and the situation of education in Osun at the moment is critical and needs urgent attention.
“Osun education sector needs emergency rescue of by all the stakeholders to rescue the children of the poor from their current situation as many of them may not get back to track, if urgent intervention by stakeholders is not provided.”
