Armed Robbers raids Bank in Ikorodu, holds Area hostage.

After holding the Ogolonto and Ebute area of Ikorodu hostage for about an hour
after robbing one of the second generation bank successfully, the armed robbery
gang has escaped.
The gang members, who were engaged in a shootout with the police for about
40 minutes, were said to have escaped through the lagoon with their loot
intact.
How the robbers succeeded in storming the area and robbing the bank of an
unspecified amount of money is still a mystery considering the proximity of the
bank to a police station.
Although the policemen from the Ebute Ipakodo police station were on duty, the
armed gang numbering over 10 held the entire area hostage.
Breaking through the door, the armed robbers marched into the banking hall and
packed the money they were after and fled unhindered.
Already, the incident has exacerbated the traffic situation in an otherwise traffic-
prone area, stretching for miles.
Again, when contacted, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, DSP Kenneth
Nwosu, said peace had been restored to the area.
He said there was no casualty on both sides, neither was any civilian caught in
the crossfire.
He said, "We are there now. We are still taking stock. I will give you the
information you need later. Call me back later."

Also tweeting from the Nigerian Police Twitter handle @PoliceNG, the police
wrote, "Lagos now secured after our officers responded to the bank robbery this
morning. Police units remain on ground."
